Our focus is on building a strong academic foundation, clarity of concepts, and confidence in students as they begin their professional journey in this highly specialized area of healthcare.

What We Do

We help students gain practical understanding of industry-required procedures while ensuring their learning aligns with nationally recognized standards. With a curriculum designed to support real professional readiness, graduates leave equipped with nationally recognized credentials that strengthen employability across the United States.

Career Paths for Sleep Technologist Certification

Prospective sleep technologists can pursue credentials through two primary agencies. While each organization has its own specific prerequisites, both provide various eligibility pathways determined by your professional experience. Our program is recognized by both bodies; however, we recommend contacting the specific credentialing agency directly for final confirmation regarding your exam eligibility.

Earning the RPSGT or CPSGT Credentials

The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) offers two distinct examination levels:

  • RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologistâ„¢): This is the advanced certification tier, specifically designed for professionals who already possess significant clinical experience in sleep medicine.
  • CPSGT (Certified Polysomnographic Technician): This is the entry-level certificate for those beginning their careers. Our curriculum is a BRPT-approved STAR Focused 2 education program, which satisfies a core requirement for those applying via Pathway 4.

Earning the RST Credential

The American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) issues the Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) credential. This program was established by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

  • An 80-hour Introductory Course.
  • 26 web-based self-study modules, typically finished during employer-led on-the-job training.

Upon successful completion of the board exam, candidates earn their status as a Polysomnographic (PSG) Technologist. Comprehensive details can be found in the ABSM Candidate Handbook ABSM Candidate Handbook.

Launching a Career as a Sleep Technologist: The A-STEP Standard

For those pursuing a career in sleep medicine, the Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP) serves as the nationally recognized standard for foundational education. This accredited pathway is designed to equip aspiring professionals with the essential knowledge and skills to excel as Sleep Technologists.

The Vital Role of a Sleep Technologist

A Sleep Technologist is a critical clinician within a sleep disorders center. An A-STEP-trained professional is prepared to handle core patient-care responsibilities, including:

  • Conducting comprehensive overnight sleep studies (polysomnograms).
  • Managing therapeutic interventions, such as Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) therapy
  • Assisting sleep physicians with patient assessment, care, and education.

To define these career stages, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) provides clear job descriptions for both entry-level trainees and skilled technologists.

A Commitment to Quality Education

Institutions earn A-STEP Provider accreditation—like the prestigious Stanford Center for Sleep Sciences and Medicine—by undergoing a rigorous AASM review. This evaluation ensures excellence in:

  • Faculty qualifications
  • Curriculum design
  • Educational resources
  • Student assessment

Accreditation, typically granted for a two-year period, guarantees that the mandatory A-STEP Introductory Course meets the highest educational standards.

Advantages of A-STEP Certification

Completing the program through an accredited provider offers significant career benefits, enabling you to:

  • Build a strong foundation for clinical excellence.
  • Prepare effectively for the national Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) examination.
  • Earn a certificate of completion endorsed by the leading professional bodies: the AASM, the American Association of Sleep Technologists (AAST), and the BRPT.
  • Contribute to advancing the standards of the sleep technology profession.
